Patti graduated Magna Cum Laude from The John Marshall Law School in 1998. While at John Marshall, she was on The John Marshall Law Review, served as the Lead Articles Editor on the Law Review Board, and participated in Moot Court competitions, while working full time and attending John Marshall in the evenings. In addition, while at John Marshall, she won the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Property and the West Corpus Juris Secundum Awards in Contracts and Property.
Upon the completion of Law School, Patti went to work for Richard Connor Riley and Associates, LLC, a telecommunications boutique firm. During that time, she traveled extensively throughout the United States, opening satellite offices and representing telecommunication companies with land use and zoning petitions, leasing, and community relations.
Patti then went to work for Anthony G. Barrone and Associates, PC, practicing in the areas of residential and commercial real estate and civil litigation. While focusing mainly in the area of civil litigation, she also did real estate transactional work, including drafting condominium declarations, real estate contracts, and leases for commercial developers.
In 2004, Patti joined Dommermuth, Brestal, Cobine & West, Ltd. Patti’s practice initially focused on representing residential and commercial developers with annexation, land use, and zoning petitions. She has been involved in a number of multi-use commercial and residential developments, involving large assemblages of land in DuPage, Kane, Kendall, McHenry, and Will Counties. Her practice has evolved to include assisting builders and developers in the area of residential and commercial real estate transactions, encompassing the preparation of contracts, declarations, easements, and reciprocal operating agreements. In addition, Patti’s practice includes civil litigation in Cook, Kane, Kendall, DuPage and Will Counties.
Patti and her husband, Dave, live in Mokena. Dave is a retired mathematics teacher who now supervises student teachers, teaches an education class at Lewis University, and is a sportscaster for DePaul University and the Illinois High School Association. Dave and Patti have two children, Dave, Jr. and Carri Schmitt. Dave and his wife, Keri, have three beautiful daughters, MacKenzie, Kelsey and Karly. Carri and her husband, Eric, have two wonderful children, Maddie and Owen. While their grandchildren keep them very busy, Dave and Patti are also actively involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois, granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope and joy.
